A Sunset Engagement Session at Sand Key Beach in Clearwater

There is a particular softness to the light at Sand Key Beach right before the sun goes down — the kind of warm, golden glow that settles over the Gulf and turns an ordinary evening into something that feels like a memory before it has even happened. It is one of our favorite places along the Clearwater coast to photograph two people in love, and Ashanti and Judah's engagement session was exactly the kind of evening we hope for.
The Day
We met Ashanti and Judah on the sand as the afternoon heat started to soften into sunset. From the very first frame, it was clear how easy they are together — a romantic, unhurried kind of closeness that you cannot pose or prompt. We simply followed them along the shoreline: bare feet in the sand, the water catching the last of the light, and the two of them wrapped up in each other while the sky turned gold and pink behind them.
A Moment We Loved
As the sun dipped toward the horizon, they paused and pulled each other close — foreheads touching, the world going quiet around them, the Gulf glowing in the background. We stayed out of the way and let it happen. That single frame, with the light falling exactly the way it does only at Sand Key at sunset, is one we keep coming back to.
Why Sand Key Beach is made for engagement photos
Sand Key is one of the most beautiful stretches of the Clearwater coast — wide, soft sand, gentle Gulf water, and an unobstructed western view that makes for an unforgettable sunset backdrop. For an engagement session that means warm, even light, room to roam along the shoreline, and that dreamy golden-hour glow without fighting a crowd. It is about an hour and fifteen minutes from our home base in Plant City, and worth every mile for couples who love the water.
A team that keeps it easy
An engagement session is often the first time a couple has ever been photographed together on purpose, and that can feel a little awkward. Our job is to make it not. As a family-owned team of four sisters serving Clearwater, Plant City, and all of Tampa Bay, we photograph the way we would want our own family remembered — naturally, warmly, and without stiff posing. Whether you are looking for a Clearwater engagement photographer or a Tampa Bay beach photographer, the goal is the same: photographs that feel like the two of you.
Planning your own Sand Key session
A few things we have learned shooting here:
- Arrive about an hour before sunset for that warm, golden Gulf light.
- What to wear: soft, flowing fabrics and warm neutrals — creams, tans, and light tones — look beautiful against the sand and water. Skip bright neons and big logos.
- Plan for bare feet. Half the magic of a beach session is the water's edge, so dress for the sand.
- Check beach parking and access before you lock in your date, especially on weekends.
